Why a patient paid $285 copay for $40 drug and more pearls.

Healthcare is more complicated than ever.  I often hear and experience folks complaining about physicians and providers and losing trust in us.  It’s frustrating to go through so much school and training to earn the degree to help others and find out they do not really want help.  They want a quick fix, not a cure.  There is a lot more to a medical degree than “medications”, and with coaching, education and direction we hope to be able to help as many folks as possible through our careers.  Healthy outcomes are the most rewarding.

We do ask a few things.

1. Please trust us over google.  Anyone can post misinformation on google, and trusting your internet sleuth ability can delay your diagnosis.  It’s fair to discuss your findings, but please trust us.

2. Please trust us over that fake article in the paper or on facebook.  These things are pointing toward the sale of garbage every time.  It’s marketing to take advantage of people.

3. When you can cure something with lifestyle changes, please don’t roll your eyes.  We’re trying to help.  It may not be what you want to hear, but it’s what you need, and worth discussing.

4. Put your energy into being a better consumer.  Insurance companies, prescription benefit managers and pharmacies are all taking you for a ride.  If you don’t believe me, here’s an article you should be aware of:

Other things to be aware of:

Insurance copays are higher than the cost of the drug about 25 percent of the time.  Be careful, research costs, and when provided a better treatment than medications please do your best to avoid these traps in the future.

The more frugal we all are, the more we all save in the long run.

Early diagnosis through well visits are invaluable to quality of life and longevity.

Take care of yourself. Eat healthy.  Exercise regularly, even 30 minute walk a day can have profound impacts.
